Why Today?

Ever wonder why we vote on the first Tuesday in November? Vince's Blog, as usual, has all the answers.

Being a country founded primarily by farmers, congress chose November because the harvest was over and the weather wouldn't be bad enough to prevent people from traveling.

The travel issue plays a factor in choosing Tuesday. Most people used to have to travel overnight to reach a polling station. Avoiding Sunday for rest and religious reasons, congress chose Tuesday, leaving Monday and Wednesday as travel days.

Now you know.
